Dear Friends,
"But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:10). My hope for us all this Christmas is that these words spoken by the angel to the Shepherds "living out in the fields nearby" would have the same impact on us as it had on them 2000 years ago! As they heard this declaration announcing the "good news" of Christ's birth and consequent presence in the world, they immediately resolved to "go...and see this thing that has happened" (v. 15). Today we are reminded through this passage that Christ has been born "for all the people." This is news that is to have a Global impact on humanity. There is no one beyond the reach of God's love expressed through the person of Christ Jesus. At the same time, we are also reminded that we are not to feel lost in a sea of humanity. The words, "a Saviour has been born to you" remind us that in the midst of the masses, God visits us personally with his Grace and Mercy longing to fill our hearts with his love, peace, and joy.
My prayer for us all here at St. Margaret's is that we would be resolved to, once again, seek the miracle of Christ in all his fullness this Season in order that we might enjoy his presence in abundant measure! Beth, Matthew, Nathan and I would like to extend to you all our best wishes for a Christmas full of God's richest blessings and that you would carry that blessing throughout 2010!
Blessings & Merry Christmas,
The Reverend Captain Stephen Pessah
A Christmas Message
December 27, 2009
Dear Friends,
Have you ever noticed how quickly we get over Christmas? Everything is packed up and out of sight as soon as possible - especially in the stores!
In contrast, the Church has always stressed that December 25th marks the beginning of a season which lasts 12 days and culminates with the feast of the Epiphany on January 6th. These twelve days are a wonderful gift! They stretch out Christmas Celebration and give us an opportunity so savour its special qualities and ponder its meaning. God has sent his Son Jesus, a human being like ourselves, to teach and guide, and help us see his true nature.
Every year brings a new opportunity to grasp this great truth and to rekindle the joy and peace that cannot be undone by any of life's woes.
May the warmth and blessing of Gods love in Christ be with you this Christmas Season and stay with you through the coming year. Stephen, Colleen and I all wish you every blessing for the New Year.
Christmas Blessings,
The Rev. Elizabeth Morley
